The UAE’s green market is expected to key in double growth from USD 1.37 trillion a year to USD 2.74 trillion by 2020, according to a recent report from the International Chamber of Commerce, UAE Chapter.
The report shows that the forecasted growth will be driven in by the growing number of construction firms that have already started to adopt and implement eco-conscious business models. In line with this, the Abu Dhabi International Wood and Wood Machinery Show (Abu Dhabi WoodShow 2011), which will be held from October 18 to October 20, 2011 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC), is expected to serve as a strategic platform to discuss solutions and initiatives related to sustainability within the wood sector.
The move ties in well with the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision of becoming a more ‘green’ centric city. The first-of-its-kind event in the UAE capital will feature the products and services of over 100 companies coming from the entire wood and forestry spectrum across 4,000 square meters of exhibition space in ADNEC. ‘Abu Dhabi WoodShow’ is an event that will transform the face of the Middle East region’s wood trade segment. The event, which is being held in Abu Dhabi for the first time, will highlight the products and services of major exhibitors coming from more than 20 countries and is looking to attract distributors, suppliers, interior designers, furniture manufacturers, carpenters, wholesale traders & retailers, building material manufacturers, construction suppliers and project developers coming from across the Gulf region. ‘Abu Dhabi WoodShow’ will complement the UAE capital's emergence as a key growth hub for the region and present immense potential and opportunities for the wood sector. “Hosting the first ever ‘Abu Dhabi WoodShow’ comes at a perfect time, where exhibitors will surely be able to leverage their products and services across the many construction and interior projects that will be implemented in Abu Dhabi,” said Dawood Al Shezawi, CEO, Strategic Marketing and Exhibitions. “Further, the ‘Abu Dhabi WoodShow’ seeks to play an active role in the UAE capital’s continuing efforts to become more ‘green’ centric and bring it one step closer towards the total sustainability of the wood industry. The event also looks toward showcasing the latest eco-friendly woodworking machineries and wood products that come from highly sustainable resources.” The Abu Dhabi Plan 2030 is an urban structure framework plan that has been designed to help Abu Dhabi filter and respond to both current and future development needs, albeit establishing a planning culture and addressing the need to implement guiding principles for new development. The UAE capital is currently being developed as the world's first carbon neutral city in the coming 5 to 10 years. This city will be a green example that will not be constructed using polluting technologies and fossil fuels. “The move towards embracing ‘green’ guidelines and policies demonstrates our concern towards helping save the environment and its vast pool of natural resources. In fact, ‘Abu Dhabi WoodShow’ will feature exhibitors showcasing the latest in ‘green’ technology. Rest assured, we affirm our strong support towards the UAE’s call for adoption and implementation of more eco-friendly policies that not only assures us of sustainable development in the long term but also safer and environment friendly facilities for future generations,” concluded Al Shezawi.
