1 hour of intense physical activity and a liter of water is great for your body, but will the environment eventually pay the toll for it?
A unique initiative came to life in Dubai to help residents take better care of the environment. HomeCycle has created online platforms that make recycling convenient, rewarding and directly at your doorstep. All you need to do is collect recyclables and request a pick-up through the website or the app. HomeCycle, will take care of the rest and make sure your recyclable materials get a second life. The service is completely free to use and is working thanks to the commitment of eco-conscious brands.
“HomeCycle is perfectly aligned with the Vision 2021 of HH. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to divert 75% of waste from the landfill” said John van Zuylen, CEO and Founder of HomeCycle. “The way we have digitalized recycling also aligns us with the Smart City vision for Dubai.”
The first brand to jump on the bandwagon of this unique concept was the Italian water brand MonViso. Thanks to HomeCycle the brand has collected and recycled more than 400,00 bottles in 2018. All these bottles would otherwise have ended up in the landfill and taken an average of 500 years to decompose.
“As a high-quality mineral water, we at MonViso have a responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging. We wanted to help our customers with a convenient and reliable solution for them to recycle and HomeCycle was the right partner to do so. Their service is free for users, on demand and rewarding for users. We are thrilled to support this innovative service which benefits our consumers, the environment and the quality of the city”.
Stephano Iorini, managing director of MonViso Trading (the brand’s distributor in the UAE, Bahrain and other countries) said.
On top of this recycling initiative, MonViso also supports the Al Jalila Foundation to help medical research through its Give Water, Give Life program.
20,000 plastic bottles are being bought every second around the world. Annual consumption is set to top half a trillion by 2021. This is far surpassing recycling efforts and jeopardising oceans, coastlines, forest or deserts. “The idea is really to help the industry to reduce its plastic footprint by having all residents and companies being part of the move” said John van Zuylen, CEO and Founder of HomeCycle. Germany leads the global scoreboard with 97% of plastic bottles recycled. In the UAE, this number drops below 10%. HomeCycle and MonViso might be a small drop in the ocean, but every water drop counts.
